51526 1950-05-26 Lostock Hall shed

LYR saddle tanks had been a feature of Preston since their introduction around the turn of the century. One could always be found shunting the sidings at the East Lancs side of the station until their demise, returning home to Lostock Hall at night. 51526 was built by Beyer Peacock Ltd in 1881 as a tender engine and re-built by Horwich in 1899 and is seen here carrying a hybrid livery of LMS style numbers but no BR insignia or emblem. It would serve at Lostock Hall until retired in October 1957.
