D5703 1958 on test where?

D5703 1958 on test where?

It is a NER 1/4 mile post so on NER tracks, presumably working from Metropolitan Vickers Bowsfield Works, Stockton on Tees.

Test trains usually ran from the Stockton works to Leeds via the steeply-graded Wetherby route. Still in workshop primer (and sporting an express passenger headlamp code on the front end) No D5703 carries reporting number 78. There is a picture of D5700 carrying a similar reporting number 78 on 7 July 1958 as it heads past Wetherby West Junction on the return working to Teesside, the coaching stock is different but it could well be around here as both appear officially posed. The Wetherby route was used for controlled road tests of the EE Co Type 1s and Type 3 built at Darlington.
