The strange front-end appearance of the Metrovicks with their wrap-around windows shows up in this second view of No.D5700 at the 1958 Open Day. Whilst undergoing their modification work back at their Dukinfield builders these cab windows were replaced with new window frames welded inside the originals and a more robust rubber seal installed to hold the now flat window glass in place. Although they looked quite stylish and offered good forward views for the traincrew, they had been susceptible to dropping out a high speed due to excessive vibration.
