Peter Kerslake says " Pennine scenery in all its splendour and as it's June there's no snow but a fine setting for this working captured here at Torside and the Longdendale Valley with its unbroken one in one hundred and seventeen grade to be climbed for five miles before Woodhead tunnel is reached.
Working in tandem in their later lives meant the fitting of the unsightly connecting leads and cables to the Woodhead electric locomotives , sadly marring what had before been an unspoilt design , free from such equipmnt in their early years in service. "
