Ex-North British Railway Reid 'J' or 'Scott' (LNER 'D29') class 4-4-0 No. 9900 'The Fair Maid'. Built by NBL of Glasgow in September 1909 as NBR No. 900 and withdrawn in February 1951 as BR No. 62405.

This fine portrait was taken in August 1937 at Edinburgh's Haymarket MPD. Famed for their names of characters in Sir Walter Scott's novels, 'The Fair Maid' (of Perth) is one of the 1828 Waverley novels. The fair maid of the title is Catharine Glover, daughter of a Perth glovemaker.
