3821 1922-04-08 Old Oak Common

GWR County class 4-4-0 No 3821 County of Bedford at Old Oak Common on April 8, 1922.

Peter Kerslake adds "This picture clearly shows the 30 inch piston stroke and slidebars on this class which, together with the 6ft 9in driving wheels and large cylinders, contributed to the poor riding characteristics of this, Churchward's least successful design. The copper capped chimney, curved front "drop-ends" of the front frames and top water feed show well in this view as do the sand boxes ahead and behind the nameplate.
3821, which had been built in December 1911, lasted in service until being withdrawn from Leamington in September 1931."
