View southward on four-track joint ex-GW and ex-Midland main lines south of Gloucester, between Tuffley and Standish Junctions The long Class J freight is headed by ex-GW Churchward '5100' class 2-6-2T No. 5141 (built 3/06 as No. 3141, renumbered 1/29, withdrawn 10/52).

Peter Kerslake says "3100" class number 5141 shows signs of a recent Works overhaul with her smokebox and chimney recently repainted in this 1950 view but she must have been an early withdrawal as she does not appear in my 1956 shedbook.
Built at Swindon in 1906 and a direct development from Churchward's earlier design this series was originally numbered from 3111 to 3149, being renumbered in the "5100"series following modifications to improve their weight distribution.
5141 is seen here heading northwards towards Gloucester on the "down" Western Region line at Haresfield, doubtless having come down Sapperton bank with the Midland Region lines between Birmingham and Bristol in the foreground and a Midland Region signal evident on the right on this fast and level section of track between Standish Junction and Tuffley Junction at Gloucester where Western and Midland Region footplate crews would often run "neck and neck" on their respective adjacent tracks."
