A fine shot of two class EM1 's numbered 26039 and 26015 at Reddish where from the mid ' fifties all fifty seven of the class , in company with the seven later EM2 locomotives , were based .
Heavy freights , especially those of coal traffic , often required double heading over the renowned Woodhead Trans Pennine route , with additional banking assistance being called upon at times , especially on westbound workings on Wentworth Bank but it all came to an end with the closure of Woodhead Tunnel and the cessation of freight workings on this route in July of 1981 , passenger workings having earlier ended in January of 1970
