Southern Pacific Railroad 'SP3' class 4-10-2 No. 5048. Built by Schenectady on 1927 as a lass of 10 locomotives all withdrawn by the early 1950s.

The Dayton Avenue Bridge, Los Angeles forms the backdrop to 3048 approaching with a northbound freight out of the city. The bridge was destroyed by a landslide in 1939, so this fine photograph records not only a lost locomotive but also a lost landmark!
