4700 1960-08-06 Old Oak Common

The first 47xx 2-8-0 4700 in express passenger lined green livery at Old Oak Common on 6th August 1960.

Peter Kerslake adds "Churchward's 4700 class looked even more impressive in lined green livery and 4700 is being prepared to work a heavily loaded express passenger duty down to the West Country. The class was regularly booked at this date for the Saturdays 1.35pm 'Royal Duchy', the engine working through to Plymouth and I think that the '147' Reporting Number is for that working. 4700 was withdrawn from Southall in October 1962 after having spent time at Bristol St.Philips Marsh but in common with most of the class had been a London engine for most of its working life."
