58100 1951-08-25 Bromsgrove
The MR four-cylinder 0-10-0 Lickey banker No 58100 about to buffer up to a northbound express at Bromsgrove on August 25, 1951.
Peter Kerslake says "Big Bertha" will bank the train up the incline to Blackwell at the summit. The lad at the window of the last coach is going to get a splendid ride and will be well able to see 58100 doing what it did best. Not perhaps the most handsome of locomotives, but "Bertha's" sheer bulk is impressive and it was the most favoured of the bankers deployed at Bromsgrove, invariably bearing a Target 1 plate."
