Peter Kerslake says "Railcar number 29 seen here was one of the third and final series bodied by Swindon works with its sharply designed wedge shaped ends and is depicted here in the all over green livery carried by the railcars in their later working lives. Allocated to Stourbridge Junction depot in the mid 'fifties this railcar emerged newly built from Swindon in 1940 one of fourteen built there that year. As would be expected with the total of thirty eight railcars having been bodied by three different undertakings there were marked differences in both the external designs together with a variety of interior fittings and seating arrangements with one Gloucester built example and one Swindon bodied unit being constructed to be used solely on express parcels duties, mainly in and around the London area."
