6002 1962-04-01 Swindon Works-ROS-2-159

For some unexplained reason it was decided in mid 1962 that 6002 , " King William IV " would be given an ovehaul at Swindon , notwithstanding the fact that inroads werealready being made in condemning other members of the class , the first such casualty having been 6006 in the February of that same year.
Although not given new colours , 6002 looked in fine condition when she emerged from that overhaul in June 1962 but was sadly condemned just three months later in the September .
The engine's nameplate has been removed in this view from April of that year but work is in progress on the outside steam pipe and I wonder whether she was later moved into " A " Shop for completion of the overhaul ?
