2516 1955-05-21 Wombourne

No.2516 at Wombourn on 21st May 1955 with the Stephenson Locomotive Society (Midland Area) ‘West Midlands Rail Tour’. one of the last surviving ‘Dean Goods’ 0-6-0 had its number plate and 89A shed plate blackened and ‘2516’ painted on the buffer beam in Great Western fashion for the occasion. It took the special from Birmingham Snow Hill to Cleobury Mortimer via Old Hill and Wolverhampton Low Level, passing through Wombourn on the way to Stourbridge Junction and the Severn Valley line to Bewdley. At Cleobury it handed over to ‘2021’ Class No.2144 for the short trip to Ditton Priors.
2516, withdrawn May 1956, was not the last survivor. 2538 hung on for another year, withdrawn May 1957.
